Yesterday I undertook a wee project. You can see the final outcome on the right here.
I bought a new printer thats very good at doing photos. I then had the idea of creating a photo mosaic of containing some of the 3000 odd photos that I've taken and stored on my computer.
I did a bit of searching around and found a program called AndreaMosaic that does quite a good job of this. I had a wee play around with it and determined it did a decent job. The next problem was finding a base image. I wanted something colourful as this thing would end up on my wall. It was suggested to me that I use a map of the world. I did a wee hunting through Google images and found a nice map.
I had a frame 100cm x 70cm (aka big!) that I wanted to put this creation in, so I needed 2 things to do this; plenty of A4 photo paper and a very large image on the computer. I resized the original map and it took a long, long, long time! Next on my list of things to do was to create the mosaic using AndreaMosaic. After I put in the settings, it took over an hour to render the thousands of tiles.
I went into town and had a look through the legendary Poundland and bought 2 sets of A4 photographic paper (15 sheets each) for £1 each!! I love that shop :) The printing of it took up 16 sheets of A4 and took a while too. I then had the extreme pleasure of cutting some of the borders off and gluing the sheets together. I finally got it all cut, glued and trimmed to size. Popped it in the recently cleaned frame and hung it on the wall.
It looks amazing and was expertly titled "My World".
